INTRODUCTION

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November,1989 as an autonomous organisation in pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India. NIOS is providing a number of Vocational, Life Enrichment and community oriented courses besides General and Academic Courses at Secondary and Senior Secondary level. It also offers Elementary level Courses through its Open Basic Education Programmes (OBE).Government of India through a gazette notification vested NIOS with the authority to examine and certify learners registered with it upto pre degree level courses whether Academic, Technical or Vocational. Association of Indian Universities, vide letter No . EV/11(354)/91/ 25 July, 1991 issued Equivalence of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination of NIOS.

Expected Timeline for NIOS 2025 Admissions and Exams

For April 2025 Examination

1. Admission Period

  • July 2024 to September 2024 (without late fee)
  • October 2024 (with late fee)

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Secondary (Class 10): Students who are 14 years of age or older as of July 31, 2023
  • For Senior Secondary (Class 12): Candidates should have passed Class 10 or equivalent and be 15 years or older

Admission Cycle

  • April 2024 Exam: The admission process generally begins in July-August 2024, with late fees applicable in case of delayed registration.
  • October 2024 Exam: Admissions open around January-February 2024

Here are the steps to apply for scholarships available to NIOS students through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP):

  • Visit the Official Website:
  • Go to the National Scholarship Portal: scholarships.gov.in.

  • New User Registration (if you are applying for the first time):
  • Click on "New Registration" on the homepage.

    Read the instructions carefully and select the "Continue" button.

    Fill in the required details like name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, etc.

    Enter your educational qualifications (mention NIOS as your board, with correct class level).

    After successful registration, an application ID and password will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.

  • Login to Your Account:
  • After receiving the application ID and password, log in using the "Login" option under the appropriate category (Fresh or Renewal).

    Use the ID and password sent to your mobile number for first-time login.

    You will be prompted to change the password upon first login.

  • Complete the Scholarship Application Form:
  • Once logged in, click on "Application Form" to begin.

    Fill in the necessary details.

    Personal Information (Name, Address, etc.)

    Academic Information (Select "NIOS" as your education board, and mention your current class level).

    Bank Details (Provide the bank account details that will be used to receive the scholarship amount).

    Upload required documents (in scanned format)

    Aadhaar card

    Income certificate

    Caste certificate (if applicable)

    Previous year’s academic mark sheet

    Bank passbook

    Disability certificate (if applicable)

  • Select the Scholarship Scheme
  • Based on the details entered, a list of eligible scholarship schemes will be displayed.

    Choose the scheme that fits your eligibility and needs.

  • Upload Supporting Documents:
  • Scan and upload all the required documents in the prescribed format (size and format will be mentioned in the instructions).

    Make sure that all documents are legible and correct.

  • Submit the Application:
  • Review your application carefully.

    After confirming all details, submit your application.

    After submission, you will receive an application acknowledgment containing a reference number. Keep this for future reference.

  • Track Application:
  • You can check the status of your application by logging in to the portal and selecting "Check Your Status".

  • Verification Process:
  • Your application will go through several verification levels (Institutional and State/District level).

    If any corrections are needed, you will be notified, and you can re-login to rectify any errors.

Supporting Documents required

The learner has to be ready with the Scanned copy/soft copy (jpg, jpeg files) of the given below documents which will be required to be uploaded while registering for the Admission to Secondary and Senior Secondary courses

Valid identity proof (like Aadhaar Card or Passport or Ration card or etc.)
Valid proof of Date of Birth (like Aadhaar Card with date of birth printed on it in the dd/mm/yyyy format, Birth Certificate etc.)
A valid proof of Residence (like Aadhaar Card with complete address printed on it, valid Passport etc.).
Address proof i.e. Aadhaar Card/Water Bill/Electricity Bill/Voter ID/Ration Card/Indian

Passport/Statement of Operational Bank Account/Appointment Letter from the Employer on Printed Letter Head, if living in rented accommodation - copy of any proof of permanent address along with present Rented Agreement

Class 8th marksheet (in case of secondary course) or class 10th marksheet (in case of senior secondary course)
Social category/Caste certificate (in case the learner belongs to SC/ST/OBC social category).o Ex-serviceman certificate (in case he/she is an Ex-serviceman)
Disability certificate (in case he/she is having any kind of disability)
Fail Mark sheet of previous Board, failing which Transfer of Credit (TOC) marks will not be

updated in NIOS result. If TOC Board marked with (*Other) is selected then the Result should be available on the Concerned Board Website or Learner has to submit result verification letter from Concerned Board as per NIOS norms

After reading the instructions click on the "Register" button in the Stream 1 block 1 section. This will display some other important instructions and a declaration. Read the instructions/declaration and then click on Proceed. The learner can click on Cancel button if he/she does not want to continue the process.
NOTE: The learner is not required to send/submit the hard copy of the form and the documents but it is mandatory to upload the required documents online. If required by NIOS management or if any other discrepancy is found in the submitted online application form/documents, the learner shall be required to submit the printed application form along with the documents and photograph. This requirement will be communicated to him/her through email and SMS.

Fee payment mode for Online Admission

There will be two options for the payment of fee

(A) The fee can be deposited Online through Credit Card /Debit Card/Net Banking.
(B) In case admission is done through Common Services Centres, fee could be paid via Electronic Wallet of CSCs.

Note:

In addition to above Fee, Rs. 50/- (Rs. Fifty Only) will be added as cost of online Application Form for all Streams (Stream 1, 2, 3 and 4).
NOTE: Kindly note that the fee payment is to be made online only. No Bank Draft/Demand Draft/Cash/Cheque or any other mode of fee payment is acceptable. All CSC and NIOS AIs (Study Centres) are authorized for facilitating the learners to take admission online. There are no other Agencies/Cybercafe/any other institutions recognized by NIOS for doing Online Admission.
